A full-service law firm, Duane Morris LLP has more than 700 attorneys in 24 offices worldwide. Its CIO, John Sroka, saw an opportunity to create a more efficient working environment using DocSolid’s KwikTag while also bolstering the law firm’s business continuity efforts. KwikTag was rolled out to the enterprise in 2007.
According to John:
Prior to implementing KwikTag, we faced the daily challenge of filing, storing and retrieving documents associated with client case files. Even though we have an iManage document management system, we still had paper files and the desire to consolidate all matter-related documents into one electronic repository. We also wanted to consolidate the cumbersome process for client billing. When it was time to bill a client, paper vendor invoices would have to be retrieved from the files, copied, attached to the bill and then filed again. Not only was this task incredibly time-consuming, but it left critical documentation vulnerable to misfiling.
In addition to productivity factors, a major motivator in the process to capture all matter-centric and billing paper was disaster recovery. There is no back up for paper. If paper documentation is ruined, then there is no way to quickly access that information. Having a central repository of all information in an electronic format could create a source of electronic information that would easily support our business continuity efforts in case of a disaster.
