Masters Series for Legal Professionals Announces Keynote Speaker for New York City CLE Event

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 15, 2011- The Masters Conference, an advanced legal educational experience, today announced that Bob Owen, partner with Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP’s Litigation Practice Group, will deliver the keynote address at the Masters Series for Legal Professionals event in New York City. The event takes place July 19th, 2011, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Owen’s speech, which covers lessons learned during his 38-year career, is entitled “Bad Teacher: Lessons from a Misspent Career.”

In his lunchtime keynote address, Owen will explore current developing trends, including social media, search technology, and impending rules reform. He will also offer his thoughts – from his perspective as a commercial litigator since 1973 – on future directions the law in this area might take in the decades to come.

Owen has more than 35 years of experience in New York commercial litigation. A nationally recognized adviser to financial services, energy and technology companies, he has handled hundreds of cases before federal and state courts and arbitration panels throughout the United States. Owen is widely recognized for his leadership in e-discovery, having been an early adopter of litigation support technology at the firm he co-founded, Owen & Davis PC, and then founding the E-Discovery and Information Management Practice at another national law firm. He is the chairman of the 2011 Masters Conference, a member of the editorial advisory board of Law Technology News, a participant in the Managing Information and Records in the Electronic Age working group of The Sedona Conference, and is listed by Chambers Global and Chambers USA (Band 1) in the e-discovery field.

The Masters Series event, entitled “Strategies for Spanning the E-Discovery Divide” will feature thought-leading speakers from across the industry and will focus on corporate data security, onshore vs. offshore review, international discovery, social media and more. It is designed specifically for -- and free to -- attorneys from law firms and corporate legal departments and litigation support professionals, though in keeping with the Masters Conference format, space is limited. The educational event will offer CLE credit as well.

The Masters Conference provides practical CLE education for lawyers and data-oriented professionals that is delivered with front-line experience. Masters Conference content is developed by an advisory cabinet of industry thought leaders. Attendees will gain practical knowledge, presented by peers, on current issues that can be applied immediately to everyday practice.
